#  Permitting Process Improvements in New Bedford 

 



The Field Lab partnered with the City of New Bedford to improve the efficiency and transparency of its development permitting process.

Students worked with New Bedford officials to map permitting workflows, identify process bottlenecks, and recommend operational improvements. The project aimed to support economic development by reducing delays and increasing predictability in permitting.



 

 ### Areas of Focus

The team examined permitting operations, digitization, interdepartmental coordination, and process management tools. The analysis focused on improving turnaround times, public-facing guidance, and internal accountability mechanisms.
